Q&A: What Is the Press Pool and What Does It Do?

On Tuesday night, President-elect Donald Trump left Trump Tower without his press pool, drawing complaints from the group of journalists assigned to travel with him and report on his movements and activities.  Mr. Trump left his Manhattan home for a dinner at the 21 Club in New York City.  This was a surprise, as spokeswoman Hope Hicks had told reporters earlier that he wasn’t going to be leaving his home that night. During the campaign, Mr. Trump restricted press pool access and has twice traveled as president-elect without the press pool.
