This one person, who many once assumed was crazy and whose doctoral work her own college failed to support, changed our professional lives by introducing us and the world to an entirely new form of storytelling. And no offense to you white guys in media out there, but for once the pioneer we can publicly herald as our progenitor is not a white male, but a Latina and a mom.

[E]ven the terminology we use is undefined and in flux. It’s one thing to try to explain to someone what “volumetric” VR is like. But perhaps the preferred term should be “room scale” or “walk around”? How about “volumetric video” versus “videogrammetry”? Or even “cinematic” versus “kinematic” VR?
In a very simple step toward making things a little more understandable, we’ve taken a first stab at some key terms that define the parameters of the field.

As they say, content is king, and that’s not only true but essential for virtual reality to be a mainstream success.
But let’s be real: There’s a lot of gimmicky content right now.
That means there’s an opportunity for true storytellers — ahem, us — to elevate this technology into a medium for engaging storytelling.

Magic Leap is about to build ‘millions’ of its augmented reality devices | The Verge

The ultimate vision for Magic Leap is to create “a broad-based platform for visual computing,” said Rio Caraeff, the company’s chief content officer. That’s one reason why Google CEO Sundar Pichai sits on its board — and why the company was valued at $1.2 billion last year, not counting its $542 million investment. “Anything you can do on a smartphone, you can do with Magic Leap,” Caraeff said. “Where the world is your screen.”
